Scott Walker, star of the Walker Brothers and one of the most influential singers in the history of rock music, has died at the age of 76.

"For half a century, the genius Noel Scott Engel has enriched the lives of thousands of people, first as one-third of 'The Walker Brothers', and then as a solo artist, producer and composer with uncompromising originality," his recording studio said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the British media have not disclosed the cause of death of the singer born in America.

Walker rose to fame in the mid-1960s as part of the Walker Brothers, with hits such as "Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore" and "No Regrets."
