Mercedes has discreetly changed its iconic logo, without much fanfare.
There was no special event, press release or spectacle, the Telegraph reports.
The change was introduced quietly and almost imperceptibly.
As of February 2025, the famous star no longer appears in a three-dimensional chrome version, but instead appears flat and in white in all official manufacturer communications, writes Auto Bild.
The new, minimalist design can now be seen in the annual report, on social media, in emails and official documents.
However, retro enthusiasts can breathe a sigh of relief: the familiar 3D silver star will still dominate the hoods, steering wheels and rear.
The decision to change was consciously kept within the company.
The goal of the new look is to make the brand appear more modern, cleaner, and more efficient.
And, of course, to better adapt to digital channels, because the flat version simply works better on screens.
"By refreshing our corporate design, Mercedes-Benz is reducing the presence of black as a dominant color in the brand's visual identity. Combined with the use of a 2D version of our logo, the Mercedes star, for print and digital media, the look will be more contemporary and visually consistent," Mercedes said.
"The three-dimensional star will continue to adorn our vehicles and architectural elements and as a trademark, it embodies timeless elegance, innovation and superior craftsmanship," a Mercedes spokesperson said.
The white star isn't entirely new. In 2007, Mercedes briefly toyed with a flat version, but quickly abandoned it.
Already in 2010, under the leadership of then-chief Dieter Zetsche, the company returned to three-dimensional design because it looked more prestigious.
Now comes a new effort, in an era when simplicity has become the new standard of luxury.
The three-dimensional star dates back to 1909 and symbolizes Daimler's vision – transport engines for land, water and air.
Since then, the design has undergone numerous changes – from a gold version, to a laurel wreath, to today's refined look. However, the star never disappeared. /Telegraph/
