Coinbase blocks over 25 cryptocurrency accounts linked to Russia

Coinbase, one of the most popular cryptocurrency exchange platforms, announced that it has blocked access to more than 25 accounts linked to Russian individuals and entities.

The blockade is in addition to sanctions imposed by the United States, Great Britain, the European Union, Singapore, Canada and Japan.

"Coinbase has blocked over 25 addresses associated with Russian individuals or entities that we believe are involved in illegal activities, many of which we have identified through our proactive investigations," said the company's chief legal officer, Paul Grewal, Telegraph reports.

The move comes after Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov had asked all cryptocurrency platforms to block Blockchain addresses used by the Russians to increase pressure and force them to take action against their government's ongoing war in Ukraine .

"It is essential to raise not only the addresses associated with Russian and Belarusian politicians, but also to sabotage ordinary users", Fedorov requested. /Telegraph/
