Paris Saint-Germain's attempts to renew Ousmane Dembele's contract have immediately run into difficulties, as the recent Ballon d'Or winner is expected to reject the club's initial offer.

According to RMC Sport, PSG have offered the French international a contract worth around 30 million euros per year, although his current deal is valid until 2028.

However, Dembele's representatives are demanding almost double this amount, which means that the talks are still far from a concrete agreement.

The 28-year-old comes after an extraordinary 2024/25 season, which was crowned by winning the Ballon d'Or, "The Best" award from FIFA and the Best Player of the Champions League trophy, while PSG managed to win the European title for the first time in history.

Dembele's crucial role in this historic success has significantly strengthened his negotiating position, with the winger demanding a salary that reflects his current status as the best player in the world.

Meanwhile, PSG is pushing ahead with a major reinforcement project, but is also being careful to maintain a balance in its wage structure. The club is favoring contracts with high bonuses, a strategy that failed last summer in the case of Gianluigi Donnarumma, who eventually left for Manchester City.

The same approach is being followed in the case of Dembele, as Parisian leaders aim to secure key players like Willian Pacho, without significantly increasing the level of fixed salaries in the squad.Telegraph
