Donald Trump's victory in the American presidential elections represents a shock to the political establishment in Western democracies, but it is also a chance for the beginning of an "authentic left", the well-known Slovenian philosopher, Slavoj Žižek, told RT television.

Trump's victory has caused a political earthquake not only in the US, but now we should not focus on Trump, who is a "brutal pragmatic politician" and a person who changes his views from day to day, but on the future developments of the situation, Žižek says, reports the Telegraph.

According to him, Trump's views - despite his radical campaign stances and vulgar and unfair political rhetoric - have identified with voters who are dissatisfied, angry and frustrated who do not want a "status quo".

"Hillary Clinton, in foreign policy, would be more dangerous and aggressive than Trump, who has expressed a soft attitude towards Russia and the solution of the Palestinian issue. But it all depends on which 'clique' will rule in his cabinet, since the Republicans who have opposed him and who have no sympathy for Russia and Putin are jumping on the Trump 'train', he says.

According to him, the left must be restructured in the new circumstances, so that the extreme right populist or authoritarian politics do not rule.

"The authentic left should represent the interests of the little people, not capital," he adds.

Žižek disagrees with the assessment of American philosopher Noam Chomsky that the world today is threatened by American Republicans and Trump, adding that the Trump phenomenon is a "welcome awakening" and a failure to continue the "capitalism with a human face" that Hillary Clinton presents to people. Therefore, he adds that Brexit and Trump's victory show that this democracy does not work. /Telegraph/
