Actress Sharon Stone made the bold choice to pose nude for Playboy magazine in 1990 so she could land a role in the film Basic Instinct.

At the time, Stone was not a well-known actress so she chose a strategic way to get the part that would later return her to the status of a 'sex symbol'.

She played the main character, Catherine Tramell, opposite Michael Douglas, who played detective Nick Curran in this film.

During an appearance in The Drew Barrymore Show On Wednesday, Stone said, "I decided to do a Playboy article specifically because I wanted to be a part of Basic Instinct."

"I didn't understand what was going to happen when I was making the film," the former model admitted.

Stone added: “I thought it was the right part for me and I knew what I had to do to get it. I didn't have enough perspective to understand what was going to happen."

After the release of this film, the star's fame grew significantly and opened doors for new performances and roles in Hollywood.
