"Anti-family gender equality bill", controversy in Albania over the law

Before the start of the plenary session, many citizens gathered in front of the Albanian Parliament building to protest against the Draft Law on Gender Equality.
The protest, as reported by the Albanian media, was called by the "Albanian Coalition for Family and Life." With banners reading "MPs, don't vote against children," "gender equality bill, anti-family," and "keep your hands off children," they are demanding that the bill not be approved.
Meanwhile, the Mufti of Shkodra, Muhamed Sytari, and the Archbishop of Shkodra, Giovanni Peragine, during a courtesy meeting for the 35th anniversary of freedom of religion in Albania, expressed their unified opposition to the gender equality law that is expected to be voted on Thursday in Parliament.

"The joint declaration of the communities prevails over any other position, it is our joint position and I hope that the political class has reflected properly and will respect the bottom line and will not hold the bottom line of Albanians in trust for cynical interests that are not Albanians'," said the Mufti of Shkodra, Muhamed Sytari.
"Man was created according to the will of God. I understand that there is talk of integration policy in Europe, but we will be careful to maintain our traditions. Integration does not mean that we should lose our traditions of family values and respect for both men and women. We must maintain our Albanian identity," said Archbishop of Shkodra Giovanni Peragine. /euronews.al/
