The officials of the United States of America expect that Kurti and Vučić will be constructive in the meeting on Monday

On Friday, officials of the United States of America declared that they expect that the Prime minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti, and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić will be constructive during the meeting on Monday, 27th of February which will be held in Brussels, a meeting where they will be discussing the European plan for the normalization of relations.

They declared that they fully support this European plan.

“We expect that both leaders will be constructive during the meeting and move forward with this plan,” said an official from the American Department of State in an interview for VOA in the Serbian language program, in a period when there are only three days left until the meeting of Brussels between Kurti and Vučić.

They further emphasized that it is essential that Kosovo and Serbia take advantage of these talks and show readiness for peace and a future in the region.

“Through the dialog, Kosovo and Serbia must reach a stable agreement. We believe that the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia aim is the mutual recognition”, he said among other things, adding that the advancement of dialogue will open the doors for stability and integration in European structures.

Meanwhile, yesterday, the emissary of the European Union in the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, Miroslav Lajčák, declared that the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić in January, and the Prime minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti in February, said that they accept the European proposal in principle.

Lajčak says that in Monday’s meeting, he expects both to accept it officially and publicly, as well as to discuss its implementation.

“The time has come for that meeting to be organized in Brussels and we expect our partners to officially and publicly accept that proposal and discuss its implementation, so that is the purpose of our meeting on Monday.

I would not discuss the formalities, I think it is important that the parties agree, as I said, that it is important that both parties accept the agreement formally and publically regarding the plan and then discuss all the other details, first of all, the fulfillment of this plan”, he said in an interview for “Tanjug”.

Meanwhile, Kosovo’s Prime minister on Thursday said that the European proposal is not a negotiation product, since according to him, the topic of the general framework of the agreement was opened on August 18 of last year, but without having meetings on that topic, “where the other party was neither interested nor ready for this, and the proposal came three weeks after that meeting”.

“So, it is not that we negotiated about it, and the proposal was brought to us. This proposal is more about the history of more than a decade-long dialogue in Brussels. So, the proposal is not even a product of the inclusion of the negotiation requirements between the parties”, he said, adding that the proposal offers a good basis to continue further with the dialogue. /Telegrafi/
