Albanian is the first platform where Albanians can create and select new Albanian words for the foreign expressions we use every day.
Created by Karrota, this space comes as a collaborative initiative to give our language what it has been missing for years: the opportunity to enrich itself with the rhythm of time.
Today we use a vast mixture of expressions from English, Italian, German and Turkish, often because Albanian has not offered a replacement. Even for a simple tool like “screwdriver” there is still no single form that is used equally by everyone. This gap becomes even greater in technology, machines and modern vocabulary, where terms like default, startup or plugin are inserted directly, without a Albanian alternative.
Me Albanian, anyone can add a foreign expression, propose an Albanian word or vote for the best alternative, contributing to a contemporary dictionary that could become a standard tomorrow.
How can you contribute?
Very simply:
• Introduce foreign expressions that we use every day.
• Suggest an Albanian word for them.
• Vote for the best words.
• Help build a new, shared vocabulary.
This idea was born in 2003 and today, finally, it has become a reality with the sole aim of enriching the Albanian language in an open and collaborative manner.
It's never too late - and now we have a place where we can do this together.
