After the ban, Apple invests millions of dollars to continue selling the iPhone in Indonesia

To continue selling the iPhone 16 in Indonesia, Apple will invest over $10 million in a new factory that will produce accessories and components for their devices.

At the end of October, Indonesia banned the sale and use of the new iPhone 16 and Apple Watch, Telegraph reports.

The ban is the result of a law there that requires foreign companies to provide up to 40 percent local content to do business in the country.

They can achieve this through local production of their products and software development or establishment of research and development centers.

Apple was supposed to invest almost 110 million dollars in Indonesian research and development centers, but they did not fulfill it.

Instead, they invested about 95 million euros, which is why the Ministry of Industry there blocked the issuance of International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) certificates for all iPhone 16 models and the 10th series of Apple Watch.

But Apple did not give up on this case, so the rest of the money will be invested in a new factory in Bandung.

As Bloomberg learns, the investment will reportedly be made together with Apple's local supplier, Yageo Corporation, and the new factory will be dedicated to the production of accessories and components for Apple devices.

Apple has submitted its proposal to Indonesia's Ministry of Industry, and is awaiting approval, to lift the ban on the sale of the device.

A similar action is expected soon from Google, which is also banned from selling phones from the Pixel 9 series. /Telegrafi/
