What do the Germans use in winter to sprinkle the streets?

For the third year in a row, the classic method of melting ice with salt on the road has been replaced by melting it with processed cucumber juice, all with the aim of preserving the environment.

Accordingly, the winter service in Bavaria since the end of 2019 uses water processed from the production of pickles, which is enriched until it reaches a sufficient percentage of salt (21 percent), writes Geo.de.

Now, after the testing phase, it became clear that processed cucumber water is more economical and environmentally friendly than salt.

Cucumber-containing wastewater has so far been flushed down the drains and is now being used to clear ice and snow from roads. In a separate plant, the water is treated, purified and sent to road workers as brine.

The Bavarian authorities are saving water in this way, and the cucumber producer is also benefiting because he has to invest significantly less money in wastewater treatment. /Telegraph/
