As former President Donald Trump pressures Apple to bring iPhone production back to the US, one small company is proving it's possible.

Todd Weaver, founder of Purism, says his startup has successfully built and sold phones assembled in the US — challenging the widespread belief that domestic production is unaffordable and difficult to achieve, foreign media write, reports Telegraph.

Purism's Liberty phone, assembled near San Diego with US-made electronics and a metal frame from China, costs $1,999.

Although far from the size of Apple, Weaver says his company has been profitable for the past two years and shows that manufacturing phones in the US is feasible with time and planning.

Trump recently publicly criticized Apple for continuing to import iPhones and threatened a 25% tariff.

Apple responded by shifting production to India, but did not mention any plans for production in the US.

"It's challenging," Weaver admits, "but not impossible. We're doing it." /Telegraph/
