The sea in Turkey has receded more than 200 meters, citizens fear it is due to an earthquake

After a series of earthquakes in Santorini, the sea in Izmir and many other places along the Aegean coast has receded by more than 200 meters.

Since February 8, the sea level has been decreasing more and more, and today, in the Çeşme district and the Alaçatı port, it has receded by more than 300 meters.

Also, the water level in the Dikili district and Bodrum has dropped by more than half a meter, leaving many boats stranded, writes the Anadolu Agency.

Although citizens have been concerned by linking this phenomenon to earthquakes in Santorini, experts say that the water withdrawal is caused by strong northerly winds and is a natural process.

Dr. Mehmet Çavusoglu, a member of the Environment, Biodiversity and Climate Change Working Group at the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TUBA), and prof. dr. Dogan Yaşar, stated that the water withdrawal occurred due to the strong northerly wind, which reaches speeds of up to 60-70 kilometers per hour.

Yaşar emphasized that this phenomenon has no connection with earthquakes in the Aegean Sea and there is no reason for concern. /Telegraph/
