Turkish farmers from the Pasinler Valley in the eastern city of Erzurum have managed to cultivate giant cabbages that exceed a weight of over 50 kilograms.

Cabbage cultivation has been successfully completed on 500 hectares of land, bringing smiles to the faces of farmers this season.

Farmers who produce their cabbages with "special seeds" do not hide their happiness as cabbages that were expected to weigh between 15-25 kilograms in some fields have exceeded the weight of 50 kilograms.

Hasbi Dursun, a 65-year-old farmer in Pasinler, told AA that he managed to produce 57 kilograms of cabbage using "special seeds."

"My goal is to produce 80 kilograms of cabbage next season. If I live, I aim to produce another 100 kilograms," he said, adding that the seeds are locally produced.

Another farmer Numan Sertoglu also stated that they were satisfied with the season and noted that cabbage weighing over 50 kilograms could only be cultivated in Pasinler.

"Our seeds are heirloom seeds. We cultivate and plant them ourselves. The secret to the quality of our cabbage is our heirloom seeds. We believe these seeds are over 100 years old," he said.
