Bozhinovska visited one of the country's mines: Sustainable practices and miners' safety are priorities

The Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Derivatives, Sanja Bozhinovska, today visited the SASA mine, the largest underground lead and zinc mine in the country, which produces approximately 800.000 tons of ore per year.

In the meeting with representatives of the mine's management team, Bozhinovska emphasized that she supports the miners' practices, which are sustainable and safe, while also noting the importance of innovations in mining.

The Ministry announced that SASA directly employs about 770 people, most of whom are residents of the local community, while the successful mining operations of SASA in the last six years enabled it to pay over 85 million dinars in taxes, which were used to support the country's development and improve the quality of life of the people.

SASA Mine General Manager Christopher Colburn emphasized that in the past six years, as part of Central Azia Metals, an international mining company, over $80 million has been invested in capital projects, modern equipment, digitalization, and improvements to safety, standards, and working conditions in the mine.

During the visit, the minister also toured the underground corridors of the mine where she spoke with miners about their experiences and challenges. Workers emphasized that safety in the field is a priority and that they are constantly working to improve working conditions.

The visit to SASA is part of Minister Bozhinovska's ongoing activities for direct communication and regular visits to all capacities under the ministry's jurisdiction.
