Erdogan reacts for the first time after the arrest of the mayor of Istanbul - protests erupt across Turkey

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has addressed the current situation in the country, including the arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu.
In a message on the social media platform X, he said Turkey will not surrender to what he described as "street terrorism."
"Instead of following in the footsteps of marginalized leftist organizations and thieves who loot municipalities, Ozgur Ozel (opposition CHP leader) should listen to the wise and responsible people around him and act responsibly. Those who do not doubt their ablution will not doubt their prayer either," the Turkish leader said.
He added that the opposition needs to explain some things to the Turkish people.
"If you can defend all the theft, corruption, immorality and mafia order that has been created in the municipality, come out and explain it to the people. If you have the courage, if you can handle it, come out and explain the large sums of money to the nation," he said.
Erdogan stressed that, if they cannot do this, they should not disturb the peace of citizens.
"If you cannot, do not disturb the peace of our citizens with crying, shouting, street terrorism or provocations against young people. Do not cast a shadow over the spiritual atmosphere of the holy Ramadan. Do not engage in actions for which you will be ashamed later," the Turkish president said.
In the end, Erdogan sent a message to the citizens of Turkey.
"Just as we have never surrendered to street terrorism and vandalism, we will not surrender now either. May God protect our country and our people from all kinds of troubles and the actions of the fifth column," Erdogan concluded.
Meanwhile, protests have erupted in several cities across Turkey with a single demand - the release of the mayor of Istanbul.
Otherwise, Imamgolu was arrested for several criminal offenses, including corruption. /Telegraph/
