"I wasn't me anymore" - Jennifer Gray admits regret for nose job that ruined her career in Hollywood and tells how friends didn't recognize her in public

Jennifer Gray has opened up about her infamous decision to get a nose job at the height of her career in the early 90s.

The 62-year-old actress decided to have two rhinoplasty operations after finding worldwide recognition in the 1987 film Baby Houseman - but her new look left her unrecognizable, with the actress now admitting it made her lose her identity. and her career overnight.

Speaking about the reaction to her changed appearance, Gray recalled attending a premiere shortly after having the nose job - revealing that her actor friend Michael Douglas had no idea who she was because she looked so different.

"That was the first time I went out in public," Gray says in an interview to promote his autobiography, Out of the Corner.

"And it became the thing, the idea of ​​being completely invisible, overnight. In the eyes of the world, I was no longer me. And the weird thing was the thing that I resisted my whole life and the thing that I was so upset with [was] my mother always telling me that I should get my nose done."

She added: “I really thought it was capitulating. I really thought it meant surrendering to the enemy camp. I just thought, 'I'm good enough. I shouldn't do this'. That's really what I felt. 'I am pretty enough'".

It's long been understood that Gray's decision to get a nose job effectively ended her Hollywood career, preventing her from ever reaching the same heights of that blockbuster on her resume.

In her book, Gray touches on leaving Hollywood, writing, “I spent so much energy trying to figure out what I did wrong, why I was kicked out of the kingdom. This is a lie. I expelled myself."
