Mercedes-Benz with new gasoline engine

At a time when new electric cars are introduced frequently and classic internal combustion engines are just adapting to new regulations, a new petrol engine is big news.

Mercedes-Benz revealed details about the new petrol engine, codenamed M 252. So, it introduces the engine that will be in the smallest cars at the start of the range.

The M 252 is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 48-volt mild hybrid technology. The Otto engine, whose combustion process is based on the Miller cycle, will be available with 136 horsepower, 163 horsepower and 190 horsepower.

In addition, the electric motor assist provides 27 horsepower and 85 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted through a new eight-speed gearbox with a double clutch 8F-eDCT. In addition to front-wheel drive, it will also be offered with all-wheel drive vehicles.

A transversely mounted four-cylinder in the front should take up little space. The power generated by the electric motor is stored in a 48-volt lithium battery with a capacity of up to 1.3 kWh, located under the driver's seat.

The electric motor supports the gasoline engine in the lower rev range. In city traffic, it should enable electric steering and electric movement up to 100 km/h.

Recovery occurs in interaction with all eight gears. In addition, the electric motor serves as a drive for the start-stop function, which should operate almost imperceptibly for passengers. Thanks to the new insulation, the M 252 should be very quiet.

As other technical features, Mercedes mentions an aluminum crankcase with Nanoslide technology and a cylinder head with a semi-integrated distributor, as well as a turbocharger with a variable turbine.

The first model with the M 252 engine, made in China, will be the new CLA, which will be presented in the summer of 2025, but with an electric car. A few months later, possibly in early 2026, this Euro 7 compliant petrol engine will be offered to customers as an alternative. /Telegraph/
