US launches strikes on Iran after tanker attack

The US military has carried out attacks on Iranian targets.

The move came after US President Donald Trump accused Iran of a "violation of the ceasefire agreement" following an attack on a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz.

No casualties were reported when the ship was hit by a single-engine attack drone on Thursday, an incident that led to a planned evacuation of more than 11,000 affected sailors in the region, the BBC reports.

In response, US Central Command announced on Friday that it had struck missile and drone storage facilities, as well as coastal radar positions.

Just moments before the attacks were announced, the American leader, asked if the US would respond to the Iranian attack, said "you'll see."

Otherwise, the US and Iran reached a ceasefire agreement in Switzerland a few days ago. /Telegraph/
