Contract renewal and two super strikers – here's what awaits Arteta after declaring Arsenal champions
Arsenal are preparing a major new contract for Mikel Arteta following the club's Premier League triumph. The Gunners are also pushing ahead with ambitious plans for the summer transfer window, with Eli Junior Kroop and Julian Alvarez among the top targets.
Arsenal are ready to offer Arteta a significant pay rise after he guided the team to the Premier League title. The Spaniard, who took charge of the team in December 2019, currently earns around €10m a year, plus bonuses, but the upcoming contract could make him one of the highest-paid managers in world football, according to The Guardian.
According to reports, the new coach's salary at the Emirates Stadium could almost approach that of Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid, who earns around 30 million euros a year — a figure that would make Arteta the highest-paid coach in the world.
However, Arteta's new contract is not the only job Arsenal's board have to do this summer, as they are also eyeing a major squad overhaul. It is reported that Arteta is prioritising attacking reinforcements as Arsenal look to build on their domestic success.
Bournemouth striker Kroop has emerged as a prime target after a brilliant season, where he particularly stood out and broke the Premier League record for the number of goals scored by a teenager in his debut season.
Kroupi is regarded as a versatile option, capable of playing both in the centre and on the left wing, while Atletico star Alvarez is also under consideration, despite the financial difficulties such a deal could bring.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia remains a "dream" target, although Arsenal expect Paris Saint-Germain to resist any attempts to sign the Georgian winger.
Sporting director Andrea Berta is also monitoring Bradley Barcola, Nico Williams and Anthony Gordon./ Telegraph /
