Explosion at Europe's largest port, casualties reported

An explosion in the port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands has killed one person and injured several others, a Rotterdam police spokesman said. The cause of the explosion is still unknown and is under investigation.

Police said the explosion occurred on Moezelweg Street at around 11:30 a.m. and that the scene has been cordoned off.

Meanwhile, the company Gunvor Energy, which manages oil storage tanks in the same area, reported a separate incident during maintenance work, where several people were injured on Thursday morning.

Local media also reported several power outages in the port of Rotterdam, Reuters writes.

Security services and police are investigating whether there is any connection between the power outages and the explosion.

The Port of Rotterdam is the largest port in Europe and includes an oil refinery and several petrochemical facilities. /Telegraph/
