Ukrainian singer Ingret talks about the situation in her motherland: It was very painful to leave the country where I was born and built my future

For weeks now, the Ukrainian state has been facing strong aggression, with Russia aiming to invade the country.
Amid the many ruins, lost lives and ruined cities, there still seems to be a clear glimmer of hope for the Ukrainian people, who are standing stoically in this confrontation.
Affected by the difficult situation are of course the Ukrainian artistic community, most of whom have been forced to stop their work, and some others have found their own ways to express art through reality and inspiration from the current situation.
Such is the case of the singer from Ukraine, Ingret Kostenko, who like many women and children, has been forced to leave her country.
In an exclusive interview with for Telegrafi, she spoke about the aggravated situation in Ukraine, saying that she does not find the right reasons to convince herself why this is happening in her motherland.
“In recent days, I have thought more and more often that the world needs this for something like everything else that happens in it. Maybe, that everyone finally gets what Ukraine is. Preferably, for the unity of our people, for ourselves. Nothing happens by itself, and in fact we do not know everything and we do not need it. “I believe in this world, I pray every day and I believe in justice,” Ingret told the Telegrafi.
Like many women and children, she too has been forced to leave the country to find shelter in one of the neighboring contries.
In the interview conducted for the Telegrafi from Berlin, the singer says that it was the worst moment to leave the country where she has contributed all her life.
“Yes, I am currently in Germany. It was painful and very scary. It was completely incomprehensible why I had to be forced to leave my country in which I was born and built my future. It was extremely difficult to leave the country, as many of my friends and relatives remained there. I visited my mother and grandmother at home before leaving Ukraine. And for me it was hell. I did not know if we would see each other again or not. “And such thoughts, of course, still exist,” said the Ukrainian singer.
Inspired by the current situation, she simply found a piano in the hotel where she was staying and began to improvise the song “People help the people”, expressing through art the gratitude that all people have shown in solidarity with Ukraine.
“I decided to record this song because when I left Ukraine I could not listen to any music. But this song kept popping into my head all the time and I wanted to sing it. And it so happened that when I was in one of the refugee hotels there was a piano and I wanted to play and sing this song. The meaning and message of this song is very simple – humanity needs help and any human being can do it. Man must help man if you are not God. You need to respect each other and help each other. “Different people, different nations,” Ingret told the Telegrafi.

Living a life of peace, the Ukrainian artist has not been very familiar with European or Balkan wars.
Consequently, she had this answer when asked about the Kosovo War, saying that she had never heard of it – but that of course with what is happening to her country, she is now more familiar with similar situations that have occurred in other countries.
“I will be honest, I have not heard anything about this war. I was a little girl when it happened. And I have always considered myself non-political and man of the world. But now it is simply impossible because it affected me personally. But also I will not give up the thought that I am a person of the world. Of course, I would love to visit your country! “I hope it will be possible for all Ukrainians in the near future,” she said.
The singer, who if you look at her photos on social networks, has an interesting and very unique style, was asked by Telegrafi for this part as well.
She said she does not define herself as part of any specific type of art, but simply did what her heart felt.
“I try very hard to make everything look beautiful. I have never considered myself part of any cultural trend, I have only listened to myself, my feelings and even if the people around me have not supported the way I dress – I would never have cared. I did what I felt was right. “And that’s why I can say that this is my inspiration that led to the pictures you can see in front of you,” says Konstenko.
Finally, the singer had a special message, demanding the end of this war as soon as possible and a ceasefire between the two countries.
“I can say for myself that people from all over the world need to develop their line of thinking. Try to see everything from a broader perspective. To read a lot of information that is happening all over the world. Because what is happening now is a constant flow of misinformation. People in Russia need to understand that we do not need any “savings”. We are excellent. We just want Russian troops to leave our country. Because of such misinformation is happening, because people are thinking in a narrow range – such terrible things are happening. “I want to wish everyone to start mediating and not to fight,” Ingret told the Telegrafi.
