Orban says he will never be able to become Hungarian prime minister again
The Hungarian parliament has approved the so-called "Lex Orban", a legal change that limits the term of prime ministers to a maximum of eight years.
This decision would in practice prevent former Prime Minister Viktor Orban from returning to the post of prime minister.
After the law was passed, Orban reacted by saying that he accepts responsibility for the political situation and that he will not yet give a direct answer on whether he will step down from the leadership of his party.
He has stated that he will continue to support what he considers good for the country, while opposing decisions that he believes are not in Hungary's interest, media reports.
The law comes after a long period of Orban's political rule and leaves open the possibility that he will never return to head the Hungarian government.
Orban has been one of the most powerful political figures in Central Europe, while his government has been accompanied by major debates with the European Union on issues such as the rule of law, justice and national policies. /Telegraph/
