The lensman was caught on camera splashing about in the waves with the giant reptile on a lead and encouraging children to stroke it. He walked it across the sand and into the waves in the resort town of Anapa in southern Russia’s Krasnodar Krai region. Footage shows children in their beachwear eagerly patting and stroking the animal. In the incredible clip the creature seems calm and shows no obvious sign of aggression. But one little girl becomes frightened of the crocodile and can be seen running away in fear. The footage came to the attention of the authorities after it was posted on the internet. They launched an investigation and identified the owner of the crocodile as a local photographer. He was keeping the crocodile in a tiny aquarium at his home and using it to make money. The crocodile owner would take his unusual pet to the beach and then tourists would pay him for photographs with it. He was taken into custody and the crocodile was given to a zoo in the city of Novorossiysk, also in Krasnodar Krai. It is unclear if he has been charged with any crime although netizens were pleased that the crocodile has a new home.
