PDK says they will not form a coalition with LVV, analysts skeptical about Kurti's offer

The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) appears to be unwilling to enter into a coalition with Vetëvendosje in the new government.

Member of the leadership of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Mërgim Lushtaku, in a statement to KosovaPress, said that no statement by the leader of the LVV, Albin Kurti, including yesterday's one on the issue of the president, should be taken seriously.

This is because, according to Lushtaku, Self-Determination is more important to Kurti than the state of Kosovo itself, as he said that Kurti was able to lead the country to elections three times in a row without compromising on the good of the country.

"I believe that none of Albin Kurti's statements are taken seriously because for him the political party, Vetevendosje, is more important than the state of Kosovo itself. I remind you that he was able to send the country to elections three times in a row rather than have a compromise for the good of the country, so I do not expect any change from this. The main problem is Albin Kurti and for him the position, the seat of power, is more important than Kosovo itself. That is why he has sown hatred and fueled the division of the people, rather than sowing a kind of unity in the people. We have also seen in his campaign that he has spoken more about his own name and division than about the results of his governance. Therefore, at this stage I believe that we should look at the certification and let the president and the political parties speak," Lushtaku told KosovaPress.

Further, Lushtaku stated that PDK should not enter into a coalition with Vetëvendosje and should not discuss any position with them in these circumstances, as he said that it has been seen what such a power, according to him, divisive, has brought to Kosovo.

Lushtaku also expressed his belief that there will be new elections again, as according to him, citizens have seen Vetëvendosje fall from 51% and that it has been helped by the Kosovo budget, which has been misused by, as Kurti himself said.

"Personally, I believe that PDK should not be ready and I believe that it should stand with the PDK's loyal electorate not to enter into a coalition with Vetevendosje and not to discuss any position in these circumstances because we have seen what such a divisive power has brought to Kosovo, such a power that for it is more important a dead liberator than a liberator in Kosovo and in power. . I am absolutely against having a Vetevendosje name [for president], because we know that we were against Vetevendosje taking all the powers, because it has created an authoritarian power and we are seeing that it even dismisses police officers just because they do not conform to its declarations and of course every day that it remains in power and takes all the positions, democracy is in danger, society is in danger, Kosovo is in danger and I believe that we should not give it the chance to continue this power. No matter how powerful it has become, the citizen at the end of the day will not give up and we will see a result "Otherwise, and I believe that there will be future elections because citizens have truly seen that Vetëvendosje has fallen from 51% and has been helped by the Kosovo budget by abusing Albin Kurti to gain a large percentage, while a part of those who unfortunately did not participate in the elections are disappointed because they have created the psychological conviction that he will win and will buy the votes of all citizens and will influence his victory," Lushtaku told KosovaPress.

He indicated that so far they have not had any contact with the other two opposition parties, LDK and AAK, as they said they are awaiting the certification of the results.

The LDK did not want to comment on this topic, as according to them, the official position of this entity will be after the certification of the results of the June 7 elections.

Regarding Kurti's statement yesterday where he said that it is the opposition parties that need to change their approach regarding the issue of the president, political analyst Blerim Canaj also spoke to KosovaPress, saying that the content of what Kurti said yesterday seems like we could still have the same situation as the last time the country went to elections.

"The content of what Kurti said seems like we could still have the same situation as last time, since he, among other things, said that he would discuss with other parties on the issue of the president, but we must keep in mind that the issue of the president requires 80 votes and the discussion is always done to reach a compromise, and compromise means that both parties present their demands and then a decision is made. So I am quite skeptical about the ultimate goal of the prime minister, whether he really wants to have the issue of the president resolved and with this the processes can then move forward or does he want us to be in the same crisis as we were in the recent past. From what we saw from the content of the language he used, I am quite skeptical," Canaj told KosovaPress.

Meanwhile, analyst Arbnor Sadiku said that the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, has a tendency to intimidate the opposition into giving in on the issue of the president. According to him, the opposition should not give in on this point, while adding that Kurti should definitely give the opposition the post of president.

"It seems that he has not changed even though the election result is not the one of December where 5-6 percent will be different from the one of December. However, there is a tendency to scare the opposition into giving up on the president, however I consider that the opposition has its cause and the president has been one of the main causes and I think that they should not give up. As for Kurti, I consider that he should create the institutions and of course give the president to the opposition because political balances would be created and at the same time the constitutional spirit would be conveyed. The idea is for democracy to function and for us to have a kind of balance of power between the position and the opposition in terms of the three main powers in Kosovo. Therefore, I think that the only way that would prove that Kurti and VV really love the state more than the power is to sit down as soon as possible and discuss with one of the political parties about the creation of institutions, offer them the president and maybe a part... in order to complete the creation of institutions", Sadiku told KosovaPress.

Kosovo held its last elections on June 7 after the country went to the polls following an institutional crisis and the failure of political parties to agree on a candidate for the seventh president of the Republic. Preliminary results published by the CEC show that the Vetëvendosje Movement is the first party with 42.96%, PDK is second with 21.13%, LDK is third with 17.6% and AAK is fourth with 7.16%. The preliminary results do not include votes cast through diplomatic missions, postal votes, conditional votes and votes cast by people with special needs.
