Meriton Korenica almost 90 percent to DC United - details of the deal revealed, Cluj earns millions
Meriton Korenica is very close to a move to the United States. The CFR Cluj midfielder is expected to join MLS side DC United, with negotiations considered to be around 90 percent complete.
According to FANATIK sources, CFR Cluj owner Neluțu Varga will benefit from a significant amount from this deal, selling 75 percent of the Kosovar player's federation rights.
Korenica has excelled since moving to Cluj, becoming the Romanian club's main player.
$4 million for Korenica, Cluj keeps 25% of the card
After signing Louis Munteanu for $7 million to MLS, DC United have turned their attention to another key player for the Romanian champions. The American club is willing to pay around $4 million for Meriton Korenica, while CFR Cluj will retain 25 percent of the player's federation rights for a future sale.
"There is a very good chance that Korenica will move to DC United. It is a matter of days," CFR Cluj owner Neluțu Varga told FANATIK exclusively.
DC United coach Rene Weiler is a big admirer of the Kosovar midfielder and is pushing hard for this transfer, which is expected to be made official in the coming days.
Korenica's salary in MLS
If the deal is finalized, Meriton Korenica will receive a very good financial contract. He is expected to have an annual salary of around $800, becoming one of DC United's important players in the midfield department.
According to Transfermarkt, Korenica's current market value is €2.4 million. In his career, he has played for clubs such as Liria, Rshoveci, Balkan and Prishtina in Kosovo. /Telegraph/
