Assassinations in Russia against the general accused of the attack on the children's hospital in Kiev

In the Saratov region of Russia, an assassination attempt was carried out this morning against a military officer who commanded the missile attack on the Ohmatdit children's hospital in Kiev in July 2024.

According to available information, the officer is in critical condition, Pravda writes.

The Telegram channel “Spy File” reported that Major General Nikolai Varpakhovich, commander of the 22nd Heavy Bomber Division of the Russian Aerospace Forces, was shot at around 7 a.m. The same source says that Varpakhovich is in critical condition.

According to information from the Mash channel, the attacker arrived near his home in the village of Probuzhdeniye on a motorcycle, wearing a helmet, and opened fire. One bullet hit Varpahovic in the body, while another hit him in the face.

His driver was also injured, but managed to escape, hide, and then call an ambulance. Doctors have removed the bullets from Varpakhovich and are preparing to transport him on a special flight to Moscow. Russian media Astra writes that the village of Probuzhdeniye appears as one of Varpakhovich's addresses.

The attacker has not yet been arrested. Russia's regional Investigative Committee has opened criminal proceedings for attempted murder of a military official, which was also confirmed by the Russian state news agency TASS.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) announced on August 31 that Varpakhovichi, along with another Russian officer, has been declared in absentia suspected of participating in the rocket attacks on Reuters journalists in the Donetsk region and on the Ohmatdit children's hospital.

The Ukrainian investigation has determined that it was Varpakhovichi who gave the combat order for the attack on the hospital on July 8, 2024. Units under his command carried out a direct hit with a Kh-101 cruise missile, which was launched from the Russian Tu-95MS strategic bomber.

At the time of the attack on Ohmatdi, there were more than 600 patients in the hospital. Two people were killed, including a doctor, and dozens more were injured.

The missile completely destroyed the toxicology building and damaged four other buildings where surgical interventions were performed and children with serious illnesses were treated.

This assassination attempt occurred shortly after the explosion of a Russian soldier's vehicle in St. Petersburg on August 27. His name is in the Mirotvorets database, while the unit he served in was accused of attacks on Ukrainian civilians. /Telegraph/
