1451:"Pic shows: Policeman Ni Haiting uses his own body weight to hold up the driver who had been trapped on his overturned cap while waiting for emergency service to arrive. A policeman was hailed a hero for helping save the life of a trucker who was trapped in his overturned cab. Brave Ni Haiting,33, and two colleagues were first on the scene when a fruit truck smashed head on into a ramp on a highway. The accident happened on the Tongjian Expressway, south-west China’s Yunnan Province. The truck rolled over resulting in the cab becoming distorted, trapping a driver and a passenger inside. With the trapped driver hanging in the air and screaming in pain, Haiting decided to use his own body weight to hold up the driver while waiting for emergency services to arrive. Haiting and his colleagues did not have the proper equipment needed to pry open the twisted metal, and had to wait three hours before the emergency services arrived. But selfless Haiting continued to speak and hold the injured driver to alleviate his pain until fire and ambulance crews arrived. The driver and the passenger were both saved from the wreckage and taken to hospital. A police spokesman said:" Officer Haiting went above and beyond the call of duty. The driver was suspended in mid air and in a lot of pain and the officer held him up to reduce his suffering. He did a valiant job as his unselfish actions helped save the man’s life."
