The meeting lasted only 35 minutes - Washington seeks new ideas, Moscow implementation of the "Anchorage agreement"

The meeting between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in the Philippines ended without any visible rapprochement between the two sides.

After brief talks, which lasted only about 35 minutes, Moscow and Washington issued conflicting statements about the results of the meeting.

Lavrov stated that Russia wants to return to what he called "the spirit of the Anchorage agreements," calling for continued diplomatic efforts based on previous discussions.

"We want to return to the Anchorage agreements," Lavrov said after the meeting.

On the other hand, Rubio assessed that the Anchorage talks did not yield results and that the parties should seek new approaches to resolving the conflict.

"The talks in Anchorage failed. The parties need to look for new ideas to resolve the conflict. Do you think we resolved the war in 30 minutes of our conversation in Asia? That's not how it works," Rubio declared.

The “Anchorage Agreement” is not a signed official peace agreement or a recognized international treaty.

The term usually refers to talks held in Anchorage, Alaska, between representatives of Russia and the United States, where issues related to the war in Ukraine and relations between the two countries were discussed.

The meeting in the Philippines once again showed the deep differences between Russia and the United States, despite efforts to keep diplomatic channels open. /Telegraph
