Ukraine has launched a series of new attacks on Russian targets, sinking a container ship linked to Russia's state nuclear energy corporation, Rosatom, and striking three major oil refineries on Russian territory.
According to Ukrainian authorities, the FESCO Yanina ship was attacked overnight by two naval drones in international waters, about 130 nautical miles from the Russian port of Novorossiysk in the Black Sea.
FESCO and Rosatom confirmed that the ship suffered severe damage and sank, while the crew was rescued.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that medium-range missiles were also used during the operation, which hit targets in the Black Sea and Sea of Azov areas.
"The Russian container ship 'Yanina', which was sailing under the Russian flag and had a capacity of over 100,000 tons, was hit and sunk," he said.
The Ukrainian leader added that overnight units of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) also struck the infrastructure of three Russian oil refineries in the republic of Bashkortostan.
According to him, these plants process millions of tons of oil per year and are considered of strategic importance for the Russian energy industry.
Russian authorities have not yet provided information on the damage caused to Bashkortostan refineries, while the Ukrainian side's claims have not been independently verified. /Telegraph/
