A passenger train has collided with a truck at a railway crossing in Gdansk, Poland, after the driver allegedly ignored signals and became trapped between barriers.

Security camera footage shows the moment a Polish PKP Intercity train collides with the orange truck, almost completely destroying it. The impact sends debris strewn across the tracks, sending a huge cloud of smoke and dust into the air.

The incident occurred on September 3, at around 12:30 p.m., near the Gdansk Lipce station. There were about 300 people on the train, traveling from Gdynia to Zielona Gora, thesun writes.

According to reports, the truck had become stuck between the intersection barriers. The driver attempted to move the vehicle back and forth in an attempt to get off the tracks, but was unable to move it in time.

Moments before the collision, several pedestrians near the intersection are seen running to leave the area.

After the collision, passengers evacuated themselves from the train. Four people, including the truck driver, the train conductor and two passengers, were checked by medical teams at the scene. The truck driver was later taken to hospital for treatment.

Emergency services interrupted rail traffic in the area, while passengers were transported by buses to Tczew.

Drone footage showed the extent of the damage: the truck's cab remained relatively intact, but the cargo area was destroyed and deformed by the train's impact.

Polish Railways released security camera footage as a warning to drivers to never stop on the tracks. Authorities stressed that if a vehicle becomes stuck at a crossing, the driver must break the barrier and immediately move off the tracks.

PKP also reminded that the train always has priority at railway crossings and that the braking distance can reach up to about 800 meters. This means that even if the driver notices an obstacle, he may not be able to stop the train in time. /Telegraph/
