The house where Adolf Hitler was born in the Austrian town of Braunau am Inn has been officially converted into a police station, in an effort to prevent the building from becoming a pilgrimage site for neo-Nazis.
After years of debate over the future of this historic building, the Austrian government decided that the facility should be used by the police, aiming to remove any symbolism that could be associated with the glorification of the Nazi dictator.
In this building, in April 1889, Adolf Hitler, the leader of Nazi Germany, responsible for starting World War II and the Holocaust, where about six million Jews were killed, was born, Reuters writes.

Austria bought the property after a long legal battle and then began a renovation that cost around 20 million euros. The aim was to change the appearance and function of the building so that it would not serve as a gathering point for far-right sympathizers.
Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner said the use of the facility by police represents the rule of law and democracy, contrary to the legacy of the Nazi regime.
A memorial stone from the Mauthausen concentration camp remains outside the building, with the message "Never again fascism," as a reminder of the victims of Nazism.
However, the decision has also sparked debate. Some critics argue that transforming the building into a police station could obscure its historical significance, while others see it as a way to remove any possibility of it being used as a symbol by extremists. /Telegraph/
