An extreme heat wave has engulfed much of the European continent.

In France, at least three deaths have been reported so far as a result of high temperatures.

French authorities have declared a red alert in 49 departments and closed nearly 850 schools due to dangerous weather conditions.

Temperatures in France could reach up to 43 degrees Celsius over the next few days.

The situation is not much better in other countries, the media reports.

In Spain and Portugal temperatures could rise to 44 degrees Celsius, in the United Kingdom they are expected to exceed 35 degrees, while in Germany they could reach up to 38 degrees Celsius.

Compared to this intense heat wave, temperatures in Ukraine, which range from 25 to 32 degrees Celsius, seem almost refreshing. /Telegraph/
