Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced today that the body of the late general of the Army of Republika Srpska, Ratko Mladić, convicted in The Hague for genocide and war crimes, has been retrieved and is expected to arrive in Serbia today.
This was confirmed by the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, saying that the family is expected to announce details regarding the organization of the last rites and other procedures in the coming days, writes N1 .
"I believe the family will send an announcement, but, as far as I know, the body has been taken and is expected to arrive in Serbia during the afternoon. I believe his son, Darko, will inform everyone in the coming days about what the family wants," he said.
The Serbian leader added that Serbia's state services will provide the family with logistical and transportation support, but will also take measures to guarantee public order, peace and security.
"We will be there to provide any kind of logistical and transportation support, as well as to maintain public order, peace and security. It is very difficult to ensure and guarantee security for everyone," he said.
According to him, estimates by the Security and Information Agency (BIA), the Military Intelligence Agency and the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs speak of the possibility of the presence of tens of thousands of people.
"It will be very important, given the estimates of the BIA, the military agency and the MUP, which speak of tens of thousands of people who could be present. Therefore, we must ensure everything. Our services have a difficult task ahead of them and we will use all means to guarantee this," Vučić said.
Mladic was a Bosnian Serb military commander and commander of the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS) during the Bosnian War, 1992–1995. He was one of the main perpetrators of the Srebrenica genocide in July 1995, where more than 8,000 Bosniak men were killed. /Telegraph/
