French President Emmanuel Macron said talks between the United States and Iran will continue during the 60-day period envisaged for reaching a permanent peace agreement.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump had declared that the ceasefire between the US and Iran was "over", writes skynews.

The ceasefire was reached after both sides agreed to a memorandum of understanding, which provided for a 60-day period of negotiations with the aim of reaching a final and long-term peace agreement.

Speaking at the NATO summit in Ankara, Macron said that meetings between American and Iranian representatives will continue during this negotiating period.

According to him, Iran's retaliatory attacks on US bases in the Gulf region had violated the interim peace agreement.

The memorandum was digitally signed by the US president and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on June 17. This means that of the 60-day period foreseen for negotiations, there are still 39 days left for further diplomatic efforts. /Telegraph/
