The Russian capital, Moscow, woke up this morning to a massive attack by Ukrainian drones, with some of the most dramatic footage of the strikes being published on social media. The videos show moments when drones hit civilian and industrial facilities in the city.

One of the most widely shared images shows the moment a drone directly hits a high-rise residential building in Moscow. The video shows the drone's engine roaring as it flies low over the residential area before crashing into the upper floors of the building, causing an explosion and fire.

Another video shows a strike on an oil refinery in the Kapotnya area of Moscow.

After hitting a large fuel tank, a powerful explosion occurred and the metal lid of the tank was thrown several dozen meters into the air by the pressure. After the explosion, a large cloud of black smoke was created over the industrial area.

The attacks also caused temporary disruptions to flights at Moscow's main airports, including Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo and Zhukovsky, while dozens of planes were diverted to other airports.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Russian air defenses had shot down a large number of drones approaching the capital and claimed damage was limited. However, footage released by residents showed direct hits on objects in the city.

According to reports, one of the main targets of the attack was the oil refinery in Kapotnya, which has been hit before. Attacks on Russian energy infrastructure are part of Ukraine's strategy to hit Russia's logistical capabilities and fuel supplies.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha stated that Russia could stop attacks on its cities, ending the war against Ukraine.

The latest attack comes at a time when the air war between Moscow and Kiev has escalated, with both sides increasingly using long-range drones to strike strategic targets. /Telegraph/
