Cher has gone to court in Los Angeles to oppose the request of her daughter-in-law, Marieangela King-Allman, to be appointed legal guardian of her son, Elijah Blue Allman.
Elijah, 50, is currently in a psychiatric hospital in New Hampshire, where he is being treated while also facing legal and mental health issues, following two arrests earlier this year.
His wife, Marieangela, 39, had requested on August 18 to take legal control of his personal affairs and assets. But Cher opposed the request on August 28, through her lawyer.
In court documents, Cher claims the family believes King-Allman is trying to get back into Elijah's life for money and fame.
According to Cher, even the hospital where Elijah is and other family members are against Marieangela becoming his caregiver.
One of the reasons cited is the fact that the couple had previously filed for divorce. Cher also claims that Mariangela did not help Elijah and his caregiver, Kayti Pease, during the period when he was facing difficulties, before he was arrested in New Hampshire.
Meanwhile, the psychiatric hospital had requested in July that a legal guardianship be established for Elijah, both for his personal well-being and for the administration of his estate. According to Cher's documents, the hospital had suggested that this responsibility be taken on by his half-brothers, Chaz Bono and Devon Allman.
The court hearing that was scheduled to be held on Tuesday in Los Angeles was postponed until December 1, after Elijah and his legal representative were not present.
