Trump says war is over, Iran attacks ships in Strait of Hormuz with drones
US President Donald Trump has declared that the war with Iran is over.
However, Iran launched several drones overnight towards commercial ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, according to the latest US media report.
According to Fox News, US forces have intercepted and shot down two Iranian suicide drones. A senior US defense official said that it appears Iran attempted to attack merchant ships sailing through the Strait of Hormuz.
"US forces shot down two Iranian one-way attack drones. Traffic through the strait is continuing normally," the official said, writes Skynews .
Meanwhile, Iranian state media reported explosions near the coast of the southern Iranian city of Sirik. They said the incident was related to a collision with a ship that was suspected of violating navigation restrictions.
State television IRIB announced that it was a tanker that, after a warning from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) navy, was forced to respect the ban on passage.
Despite the optimistic messages from the White House in recent days, the latest incidents show that the security situation in the region remains tense. These developments also raise the question of how difficult it will be to restore unhindered traffic in one of the world's most important sea lanes.
Iran and the United States have made conflicting statements in recent weeks regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. While Tehran aims to restrict passage and impose shipping fees, Washington demands the full reopening of the strait to international maritime traffic. /Telegraph/
