Tragic toll from earthquakes in Venezuela - 589 dead and thousands injured

The death toll from two powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela has risen sharply, reaching 589 dead, the country's authorities announced.
The new figure represents a significant increase from the previous toll, which was 235 just a day earlier. Emergency teams continue to search the affected areas, while authorities warn that the toll could rise.
Venezuela's acting President, Delcy Rodríguez, announced that around 2,980 people have been injured as a result of the strong tremors that hit the country on Wednesday night, writes skynews .
"We will rescue the people who are trapped," declared Rodríguez, emphasizing that rescue teams are working non-stop on the ground.
Authorities have activated search and rescue operations in the most damaged areas, while emergency teams are trying to extract survivors from the rubble of collapsed buildings.
