Three people have lost their lives in a serious maritime accident that occurred in the area between the islands of Brac and Sholta, in central Dalmatia.

According to initial information, a catamaran and a sailboat were involved in the accident, index.hr reports.

Croatian emergency services, maritime police and port authorities immediately responded to the scene, and an investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.

Croatian media report that the collision occurred in the sea corridor between the two islands, one of the busiest shipping areas in the Adriatic.

In addition to the victims, there are also reports of injured people who have been transported for medical treatment.

Croatian authorities are expected to release more details after the completion of the expert examination and questioning of witnesses. /Telegraph/
