The world's largest blue sapphire, the 310 kilogram gem is discovered in Sri Lanka

Authorities in Sri Lanka have unveiled the world's largest natural blue sapphire, weighing 310 kilograms, which was found in a pit three months ago.
Local experts who have studied the sapphire, said that it is one of the rarest precious stones in the world, as it weighs over 300 kilograms, and for international organizations such a thing must be confirmed, Telegrafi reports.
As Reuters reports, the sapphire was exposed in the house of the man who came across the pit where it was found about 65 kilometers south of the country.
The sapphire was actually found in the Ratnapura region, which is known for its gemstones, where local residents had previously found the largest concentration of so-called star-shaped sapphires.
This country last year earned about half a billion dollars from the export of precious stones. /Telegraph/
