After more than three decades of speculation, Macaulay Culkin has answered one of the most frequently asked questions about the movie "Home Alone" - Kevin's father's mysterious job.

In a recent interview, the 45-year-old shared his perspective on what Peter and Kate McCallister, his father and mother, did to afford their luxurious lifestyle.

Since the first "Home Alone" movie hit theaters in 1990, 35 years ago, fans of the series have been involved in widespread speculation and even conspiracy theories about how exactly the McCallisters were able to afford such a luxurious lifestyle.

Much of the discussion was fueled by the depiction of a family living in a large mansion outside of Chicago, while at the same time having the opportunity for the entire family to fly to France for Christmas, as seen in the first episode.

Not only that, but the villa was large enough to comfortably accommodate 15 family members the night before the trip and was apparently located in an affluent area, attractive enough to attract thieves planning to rob homes in the neighborhood before Christmas.

In a recent interview with Postmedia, Culkin shared his guess as to what Kevin's parents were working on.

"I think his father was a corporate lawyer, that's why they could afford such nice things and live in a nice neighborhood," he said.

Speaking about what his mother had done, he added: "His mother was an interior designer, that's why the house was so beautiful."

In December 2024, during a guest appearance on The Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter podcast, director Chris Columbus revealed that he and screenwriter and producer John Hughes had thought about what the characters would do.

Speaking to the podcast hosts, Columbus explained: "We thought that the mother, at the time, since we used mannequins in the basement, I remember the conversation, was a very successful fashion designer. The father, based on John Hughes' own experience, may have worked in advertising, but I don't remember what the father did for a living." /Telegraph/
