King Charles really wanted a girl - he was disappointed when Prince Harry was born

A royal biographer recently revealed that King Charles III was disappointed to learn that Princess Diana had given birth to Harry.
As the biography points out, the king wanted a girl and his reaction to the fact that Harry was a boy was so devastating to Princess Diana that it was one of the causes of the breakdown of their marriage.
Previously unknown audio of Princess Diana talking about her union with the then-Prince of Wales aired on "Good Morning America" on Friday, including footage of her describing her disappointment when she learned Harry was not a girl.

"My husband doesn't even want to talk to Mum. At Harry's christening, Charles approached Mum and said, 'You know, we were very disappointed. We thought it was going to be a girl,'" Princess Diana told author Andrew Morton in his 1992 book "Diana: Her True Story."
"And the queen attacked him: 'You have to understand how lucky you are to have a child who is normal.' From that day on he calmed down. That's what you do when someone answers you," the princess said at the time.
Christopher Andersen said in an interview on Tuesday that Princess Diana was devastated by her then-husband's reaction to the birth of their second son in 1984.

"Oh my God. It's a boy. He even has red hair," Charles said contemptuously, much to the surprise of the doctors and nurses in the room, Andersen told the media.
Andersen added that the princess had told him then that their marriage was over.
The author went on to explain that Diana hated the whole gender preference situation because she believed her parents were disappointed that she wasn't a boy. /Telegraph/
