Inter president Beppe Marotta has confirmed that talks for Joao Cancelo and Al-Hilal could include a player swap, while he has categorically denied that there are official offers from Galatasaray for Davide Frattesi.

The Blues ended 2025 without any trophies, including elimination in the semi-finals of the Italian Super Cup against Bologna on penalties, however Inter continued to lead the Serie A standings.

With the opening of the January transfer window, Inter have been involved in some of the biggest topics of the transfer market, including reports of talks with Joao Cancelo for a possible return to Serie A.

"We don't have a particular need for reinforcements, especially when there are few opportunities on the market. Dumfries will be out for at least another two months, so we are looking to see if there is a player with similar characteristics and the same level of quality," Marotta told DAZN Italia.

"This opportunity has been presented to us. We are analyzing the situation, we are in an intermediate phase and we will see how everything develops in the coming days."

Marotta was also asked if it is true that Al-Hilal could propose a swap between Joao Cancelo and a centre-back, including the possibility of Francesco Acerbi reuniting with former Inter coach Simone Inzaghi in Saudi Arabia.

"Cancelo has a very expensive contract, which no Italian club can fully afford. We know that they are looking for a centre-back, so when we enter a more concrete phase of negotiations, we will also discuss these elements."

"We are trying to strengthen the right wing, which at the moment is only weakened due to Dumfries' injury."

Meanwhile, Galatasaray has denied that it has submitted an offer for Frattesi in the form of a loan with an option to buy for 35 million euros, and Marotta has stressed that reports of advanced negotiations do not hold up.

"Regarding Frattesi, our strategy is clear: if a player wants to leave, we evaluate the situation. Frattesi is not in this position. We have not received any official offer, but we are open to discussions."

Another issue circulating in the media is Torino's interest in terminating Kristjan Asllani's loan six months early and returning the midfielder to Inter.

"Regarding Asllani, we have not yet spoken with Torino, but he is on loan and we must respect the value of the player. If he does not stay at Torino, we will try to find him another club," Marotta concluded.Telegraph
