Mayors from European cities today gathered in Skopje to express their support for the capital, in the Skopje 2028 - European Capital of Culture project.

The Mayor of the City of Skopje, Orce Gjorgjievski, stated that through cooperation with European cities, Skopje will develop in terms of culture, while in parallel, infrastructure projects will also be implemented, such as the reconstruction of the Castle, the Old Bazaar and other important buildings.


"This is a good opportunity to unite all citizens in Skopje through culture. On the one hand, this is the cultural dimension of the process, while on the other hand there are the infrastructure projects that we are planning, such as the reconstruction of the Castle where many events will be held, the Old Bazaar of Skopje, the Aqueduct, a true symbol of the city, and others," declared the Mayor of the City of Skopje, Orce Gjorgjievski.

The European Union Delegation emphasized that cooperation with European cities will influence the cultural and infrastructural development of Skopje.

The mayors of European municipalities emphasized that Skopje will continue to benefit from investments in culture even after 2028.

They expressed that they are in Skopje to support the project, while also sharing their experiences and challenges, which should not be repeated.

The City of Skopje emphasized that the planned projects will be implemented this year, while by 2028, work will be done to improve real challenges, such as hygiene, greenery, and public transportation.
