Joshua Zeichner, has explained what a fungal infection in the armpit is and how it happens

"A yeast infection of the armpits looks different than what women first think when they hear it's a yeast infection, and this is a vaginal yeast infection.

"Yeast is, in fact, a type of fungus, and candida is the type of fungus that usually causes conditions like intertrigo, while other types of fungus look like ringworm," says Joshua Zeichner, director of cosmetic and clinical studies in the Department of Dermatology at Mount Sinai,

"There are conditions that are more like superficial infections caused by fungi that shouldn't be there - like the armpits," he said, according to HuffPost.

A fungal infection of the armpits causes a red rash. The features that appear on the skin are called "satellite lesions" - they appear in the middle, right in the crease, and around them are red dots that look like little "satellites."

Fungal infection of the armpit occurs more often in summer when the air is hot and humid and moisture is absorbed by the skin folds. This creates an ideal environment for the formation of fungi.

Yeast infections are more common in the area below the breasts, especially in women with larger breasts, or in the nipple area. You can treat a yeast infection in the armpit with an antifungal cream, such as clotrimazole, and the infection should disappear in a few days.

If it does not go away, definitely seek the help of a dermatologist within one to two weeks. /Telegraph/
