Sydney Sweeney has reacted quietly to the controversy surrounding her latest campaign with American Eagle.
The 27-year-old actress was at the center of criticism after the ad's slogan "Sydney Sweeney has great jeans" was interpreted by some as an allusion to "great genes," linking it to racist propaganda and ideas of eugenics.
In the video, she says: “Genes are passed from parents to offspring… my genes are blue,” a phrase that some have called problematic due to its historical connections to racial supremacy ideologies.
American Eagle came to her defense, while Sweeney only shared a photo of a bouquet of roses with a white heart, without comment, leaving everything open to interpretation.
