Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has spoken after his side's Champions League exit to Atletico Madrid, admitting that his team remains disappointed despite a strong performance in the second leg.

Barcelona won 2-1 at the Metropolitano, but were eliminated in the quarterfinals with a 3-2 aggregate score, after losing the first leg 2-0.

"We are very disappointed because the team was fantastic, even when we were one player short," Flick declared, referring to the red card Barcelona received at the end of the match against Eric Garcia.

The German coach added that the team must accept the elimination and work for next season, while adding that by watching the matches, Barcelona deserved to advance to the semi-finals.

"We have to accept this and improve for next season. I think we had a lot of chances in the first half and then we conceded that goal. Football is like that, we have to do things better. The team gave everything, but we didn't make it."

"Over the two games, we deserved to reach the semi-finals. We should have scored more goals. It was really possible. Of course we are disappointed. The staff, the players, the fans... we have to learn," said Flick. /Telegraph/
