Top 10 best attacking trios of the 21st century

Neymar, Cavani and Mbappe are tearing things up in Ligue 1, but how does PSG's dangerous attacking trio stack up against other attacking trios of the new century in football?
It is this dangerous trio of PSG that will confront one of the most dangerous trios of recent years, Real Madrid's BBC.
The Telegraph ranks the best attacking trios of the 21st century.
10. Pedro, Diego Costa, Eden Hazard
Chelsea, 2016-2017
Much of the praise (rightly) went to N'Golo Kante in midfield when Chelsea won the Premier League title last season, but Antonio Conte's influence on the revived attacking trio should not be ignored. Chelsea's trio struggled to adapt before last season, but things have improved since Conte's arrival.
Eden Hazard found his best form, Pedro turned into the player we know from his Barcelona days and Diego Costa was... well, typical Diego Costa. Hazard's technique and speed on the wing, combined with Costa's physical approach in the middle, made this a combination that few teams have been able to stop.
9. Lorenzo Insigne, Dries Mertens, Jose Callejon
Naples, 2016-ongoing
Napoli have become the top scoring team in Serie A since Juventus in 1959/1960 when they scored 94 goals last season. Of this total, the Italian Insigne, Beglu Mertens and the Spaniard Callejon contributed to 60 of them. Despite their fantastic form, the Neapolitans have yet to win their first title in three decades.
This season they are hoping things will be different. Picking up where they left off, the Napoli trio have managed to score a combined 34 goals in all competitions as their side sit top of the Serie A table with a point clear of Juventus with 15 games remaining. Bellisimo.
8. Hulk, Radamel Falcao, Silvester Varela
Oporto, 2009-2011
A combination that no one expected from different corners of the world. The Colombian Falcao arrived from Argentina, while the Brazilian Hulk came from Japan, while Varela came from Portugal. Despite their differences from where they came from, they combined sublimely when the trio led Porto's attack from 2009 to 2011.
In their second season together, they scored a combined 86 goals. This made Porto and new coach Andre Villas-Boas winners of a treble (Primera Liga, Taca de Portugal and Europa League), and this team spent the whole season without defeat. Power, ruthless finishing and speed from left to right made Porto's front three very formidable.
7. Mario Gotze, Robert Lewandowski, Marco Reus
Borussia Dortmund, 2012-2013
Bundesliga and Champions League runners-up, it was a weak defence that let Jurgen Klopp's side down in 2012/2013. In a season where they "almost" did it all, the big positive was the attacking triumvirate that was tearing apart defences in Germany and across Europe.
Klopp's ruthless trio managed to produce some of the most impressive and energetic football ever seen in Europe, most famously the 4-1 demolition of Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Champions League, where Lewandowski scored all four goals.
6. Kylian Mbappe, Edinson Cavani, Neymar
PSG, 2017 - ongoing
We are talking about the most expensive attacking force ensemble in the history of football that cost PSG 400 million euros. So far it seems that this money has been spent "wisely" by the leaders of Ligue 1.
Unai Emery's side were beaten in the Ligue 1 race by Monaco last season, but the newly formed attacking trio are well on their way to bringing the title back to Paris. Not only have MCN scored a combined 69 goals already this season, but they have also managed to produce 30 assists.
There have been misunderstandings off the field (between Neymar and Cavani), but their understanding on the field could easily lead the Parisians to a Champions League triumph.
5. Carlos Tevez, Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo
Manchester United, 2007-2009
Hailed as Manchester United's new "holy trinity" - Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez were arguably the most talented and fearsome attack in the history of English football. They have not managed to have the longevity of their predecessors Denis Law, George Best and Bobby Charlton at Old Trafford - but they have certainly had plenty of trophies to show for it in their two years together.
Every player was young, hungry and quick - deadly in front of goal. As a result, Sir Alex Ferguson's super-attractive attack managed to win two consecutive Premier League titles as well as a League Cup trophy and, most importantly, the Champions League in 2008. Ronaldo finished the season with 26 goals, Rooney with 20, while Tevez and Dimitar Berbatov added a further 29 between them.
4. Thierry Henry, Samuel Eto'o, Lionel Messi
Barcelona, 2007-2009
The superstars of Barcelona's most successful team ever: Henry, Eto'o and Messi, proved an unstoppable force for Guardiola's side, especially in the 2008/2009 season. The trio scored 100 goals between them as Barca won La Liga, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey - an unprecedented feat in Spanish football at the time.
Great victories were sealed by this team. Among the victims, of course, are Real Madrid (6-2 destruction at the Bernabeu), Sevilla (in third place that season, but beaten 4-0 by Barca) and Atletico Madrid (who were demolished 6-0). Terrifying.
3. Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo
Real Madrid, 2013 - ongoing
Since Gareth Bale arrived at the Bernabeu in the summer of 2013, the Welshman's combination with Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema has been phenomenal - or at least phenomenal for their first three seasons. They scored 400 goals between them and won three Champions League trophies, and despite these achievements, the Real trio have not escaped criticism.
Injuries have held Bale back at times, Benzema's goalscoring numbers have been criticized and even Ronaldo has had to suffer through the flurries. Their time together is coming to an end, with all three players being linked with other clubs. But when the BBC disbands, it will be these demanding Real fans who will realize what they had in the team.
2. Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Rivaldo
Brazil, 2002
Brazil went on to win the 2002 World Cup, but the way the Selecao did it was the most impressive. Luiz Felipe Scolari's team managed to go towards the end of this tournament by destroying the opponents with 18-4 statistics on their way to the fifth crown of the most important trophy in the sport of football.
The "Triple R" scored 15 of those 18 goals, with at least one of them on the scoresheet in every match. This made them one of the most versatile forces in the history of international football, and just ask David Seaman.
1. Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Neymar
Barcelona, 2014-2017
Three players. Three seasons. Seven trophies. A total of 173 assists and 364 goals. Football has never seen anything like the combination of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar - and it is unlikely to see it in the near future.
During their time together, the Latin American trio were three of the four best strikers in the world - and they played together. There is no doubting their beautiful play during their time together at Camp Nou and unstoppable on their best day.
With the man Lionel Messi on the right, an elusive finisher like Luis Suarez in the middle and a brilliant Neymar on the left, this trio enjoyed a symbiosis that was fantastic to enjoy, for Barcelona fans and lovers of Catalan football. .
