LIDL supermarket chain comes to Albania, receives strategic investor status

German supermarket giant LIDL will officially enter the Albanian market, following the approval of "Strategic Investor" status for the "LIDL - Albania Logistics Center" project.
The decision was made by the Strategic Investment Committee at the meeting held on April 10, 2025.
The investment envisages a project worth over 105 million euros, which will extend over an area of 200 thousand square meters near the Porto Romano logistics area in Durrës, within the footprint of the New Integrated Commercial Project of the Port of Durrës.
The logistics center to be built will have the main function of storing bulk products, serving as a base for supplying the Albanian market, improving the distribution chain and promoting exports of local products.
In addition to the logistics component, Lidl aims to create a wide network of supermarkets throughout Albania and is expected to employ around 2,500 people.
The "Strategic Investment with Special Procedure" status will be valid for a 3-year period, during which the expropriation procedures are expected to be concluded by the Durrës Port Authority, in cooperation with the relevant institutions.
The project will be implemented according to the Masterplan of the New Integrated Commercial Port of Durrës in Porto Romano.
This development marks an important step for Albania's trade and logistics infrastructure, bringing to the country one of the most recognized brands in Europe for its quality and competitiveness.
